Highway driving

AS a frequent commuter, I am rather concerned about the reckless driving of bus drivers on the highway. These drivers put the safety of their passengers and other drivers at risk.

I have witnessed several instances where bus drivers overtake other vehicles from the wrong side, which, needless to say, is potentially fatal.

Some drivers seem to have no regard for the speed limit, and use the highways as Formula One tracks, racing with others of their ilk. Bus drivers have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their passengers and other drivers on the road. Tailgating and reckless driving can put everyone at risk, and, as such, need to be avoided at all costs.

The current practices of most bus drivers create a stressful and dangerous situation for the drivers being tailgated, and increase the risk for the bus passengers as well in case of an accident. When they feel unsafe, passengers sometimes try to convince the drivers to drive safely, but this ‘pressure’ does not always work.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) should take appropriate action to address the issue and to ensure that drivers follow traffic rules. By working together, drivers, passengers and law-enforcers may help promote a safer and more comfortable commuting experience for everyone.

Let us all do our own part to promote safe driving and to ensure the safety of ourselves as well as of others on the roads.
