RAWALPINDI: On the instructions of Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaquat Ali Chatha, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) SecretaryRashid Ali has constituted special mobile squads to check illegal increase in transport fares during the forthcoming Eid.

The mobile squads will be deployed in different areas who will be responsible for enforcing the fixed fares on all private vehicles in their area. Apart from this, a control room has been set up in the office of the secretary RTA.

The contact number of the control room is 051-927011 on which citizens can call and register their complaints regarding ovr charhing of fares or overloading.

The control room will be operational from 9am to 5pm from April 18 to April 21. Similarly, the squads have been assigned their respective areas where they will be on duty from 9am to 8pm.

The commissioner said there was a tendency of overcharging by transporters during the Eid days.

He said the purpose of setting up the special squads was to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. Their responsibilities include ensuring the presence of fitness certificates by checking all private vehicles, avoid overloading and not allowing to charge more than the fixed fares. He directed the squads to ensure their presence at bus stands till the Chandraat.
