PTI leaders call on JI emir

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leaders Asad Umar and Senator Ijaz Chaudhry called on Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq here at Mansoora on Saturday and during the meeting the two sides agreed that enforcing the Constitution was the solution to the country’s problems and that all stakeholders should at least unite on this point.

According to a JI press release, Sirajul Haq believed that political parties should start a dialogue on the agenda of general elections.

It said the JI chief told the visiting PTI politicians that he believed the polls in two provinces would not bring any solution, rather it would add to the prevailing crises in the country, apprehended that the losing side would not accept the election results.

Haq said as the people were the final authority to make decisions about the future of the country, they must be given the right to elect their representatives through free and fair elections.

He regretted that political parties and national institutions were in a state of war, while the masses were burning in the fire of inflation and lawlessness.

Meanwhile, the JI chief expressed grief over the loss of lives in Karachi stampede during ration distribution and called for an inquiry into the incident. Mr Haq rejected the government’s plan to outsource national airports, saying the JI would resist the selling out of the state enterprises and institutions “on the direction of the IMF”.
