KMU to establish 300-bed teaching hospital

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University (KMU) plans to establish a 300-bed teaching hospital to provide clinical research facilities in the fields of emergency, radiology and pathology.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq on Wednesday, according to a press release.

Deans and heads of various institutes and departments participated in the meeting.

Prof Haq told the meeting that all modern facilities would be available in the proposed hospital. He said it would be a modern and model teaching hospital, where not only clinical training of thousands of students from various fields of KMU would be done but it would also provide diagnostic and treatment services in various fields to the people of the province and the neighbouring Afghanistan. “All the facilities will be available at subsidised rates,” he added.

Prof Haq explained that the hospital would be run under an independent professional management board, while overall supervision would be done by the university syndicate.

A high-level committee was also formed to prepare the working paper of the proposed hospital as soon as possible, and take necessary approvals from the Higher Education Commission. A demonstration was also made regarding making the examination system fully digitised.
