Karachi, Hyderabad to be ruled by jiyala mayors, says Wahab

KARACHI: Sindh government spokesperson Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday said that the next mayors of Karachi and Hyderabad would be from Pakistan Peoples Party.

Addressing a press conference, he said that people of the province had rejected the politics of sit-ins by expressing their confidence in the PPP in the second phase of the local government elections in the two major divisions of the province.

“Karachi and Hyderabad Councils will be led by jiyale mayors,” he added.

Barrister Wahab, who is also CM’s adviser on law, said that the results announced by the Provincial Election Commission showed that people had voted for the PPP candidates in the first phase of the election.

“Now the same sequence of success continued in Hyderabad and Karachi divisions as well,” he added.

He said the PPP had gotten a clear lead in Hyderabad division and the party also had majority in Karachi division, too.

He said that for the first time in Karachi, the problem of transport was being solved seriously and it was not hypothetical, but was seen in practice. “Pakistan’s first electric bus was launched in Karachi,” he added.

The provincial government’s spokesman said that a total of 31 minor roads were constructed in districts West and Keamari where a large number of labourers also worked.

He said that the PPP had gotten vote for all the development works it had carried out in the city. “People do not want the politics of division and division,” he said.

Answering the questions, Barrister Wahab said that the constitutional decisions had to be made by the constitutional institutions.

“We cancelled local government constituencies, but the Election Commission did not accept it,” he said and added that the fate of the notification had to be decided by the constitutional institutions.
