PROTECTING CHILDREN

PROTECTING CHILDREN: The Constitution provides for protection of all citizens, including children. Despite relevant constitutional provisions in place, children are subjected to various forms of torture and punishment, denying them their due rights. The menace of terrorism has worsened the situation for our children.

SALARY WOES: Hundreds of teachers left their employment in private schools to join public-sector employment, but after 10 months of their joining as junior elementary school teachers and primary school teachers, they have not received a single penny in terms of salary. This has led to stress and anxiety among them. The government should look into the matter without any delay.

ENERGY PLAN: The government plan to overcome energy shortage was a welcome step, but, sadly it has not been implemented in its true spirit. In fact, it has not been implemented at all. The plan was announced, but things were apparently left to the whim and fancy of individuals to decide whether or not to follow the protocols. I believe the plan did not work because no matching action was taken to discourage the use of large, luxury vehicles that the government officials use, and which are a bigger strain on the national exchequer.

FOG AND VACATIONS: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department recently announced winter vacations except in areas where the weather conditions are not as harsh. However, the plains are in the grip of intense fog that has made it difficult for all concerned to make their way to their respective schools. The relevant department should revisit its decision.
