WRETCHED ROAD

WRETCHED ROAD: The critical Kotri Khanawahan Link Road, which links Kotari Mohammad Kabir on the National Highway and connects Mehrabpur and Kandiyaru to a large number of villages in Sobhodiri taluka, has been in a state of disrepair for years. It takes hours to travel from one place to another, and patients in particular suffer immensely. The government should have the road repaired.

USEFUL WASTE: About 20 billion tonnes of waste stand dumped in Lakho Dir and Mehmood Buti, releasing the harmful methane gas. There are reports that the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) is in talks with foreign companies to generate 60-70KW of electricity from the dumped waste. Every effort should be made to have this plan in place on a priority basis.

SETTING EDUCATION AFIRE: Burning girls’ schools down to ashes is not a rare phenomenon in Balochistan. One such incident recently took place in Pasni. The local administration, as usual, failed to nab the culprits. Private educational institutions have also been the target of such attacks forcing a number of parents to avoid sending their daughters to school. How long will such pathetic attacks on education continue?

RELIEF PACKAGE: The sitting government deserves appreciation for the initiative to provide relief package to the general public affected by rising inflation. Relevant federal ministries have also been directed to prepare special packages for youngsters in terms of education and livelihood opportunities. This is a radical change from the past when the party in power failed to even respond to public pleas in such situations. The public, however, is waiting for some action on the ground, hoping that they will not be disappointed this time.
