Women, juvenile facilitation centre in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: The country office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Pakistan has opened a Women and Juvenile Facilitation Centre (W&JFC) in Gujranwala in collaboration with the Punjab Police and with the financial support of the government of Norway.

The centre is the second facility of its kind established by the UNODC in Punjab after successful operations of its forerunner centre in Gujrat since 2019.

The WJFC is modelled as per international standards, providing comprehensive services and compassionate environment to women and juvenile victims of violence for reporting, recording and investigation of crimes.

In order to officially operationalise the Center, an inauguration ceremony was held at Saddar Police Station, Gujranwala, on Wednesday.

Officials from the Royal Embassy of Norway, H.E Per Albert Ilsaas, Ambassador of Norway to Pakistan; Anja Myrtveit, Second Secretary Development Programme; Per Martin Bjartan, police liaison officer Bilal Majeed, RPO Munir Masood Marth, CPO Umer salamat.

The inauguration of the WJFC marked an important milestone as part of a multi-year Government of Norway funded programme “Enhanced Capacity of Criminal Justice Actors in Punjab” implemented by UNODC in collaboration with the Government of Punjab.
