Three women injured in celebratory firing

HARIPUR: Three women suffered bullet injuries during celebratory firing at a wedding ceremony here in Jhamra village of Ghazi tehsil, police said on Sunday.

Ghazi police said that the marriage ceremony of one Qamar Zaman was in progress when Nazar Ahmed, said to be a close relative of the bridegroom, started firing in the air with a 30-bore pistol and the bullets hit three women of the family, injuring them critically.

The injured were taken to the tehsil headquarters hospital, Ghazi, where they were identified as Nazneen Bibi, Arifa Bibi and Sabeela Bibi.

The police have registered a case against the bridegroom and the man who fired shots in the air.

CENTRE CRITICISED: Provincial Irrigation Minister Arshad Ayub Khan said here on Sunday that the federal government had deliberately delayed the disbursement of Rs190 billion on account of National Finance Commission Award to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where financial crisis was deepening with each passing day.

He was speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of government degree college, Kohala, in upper Khanpur here. He said that the people would suffer as a result of the bad policies of the federal government.

The minister said that the Rs470 million project of government degree college, Kohala, would usher in a new era of development in the area as both girls and boys would be enrolled for BS and MS programmes.

Arshad Ayub said that the people of upper Khanpur area would get quality education facilities within next few months. He also inaugurated Neelan Bhoto-Hilly Road, small bridges and flood protection wall.
