Festival of books on law under way in Larkana

LARKANA: A six-day festival of books on the subject of law got under way on the premises of the district and sessions court where hundreds of books on constitution, civil law, criminal law, philosophy, psychology,

literature, history and other related subjects were put on display.

The district and sessions judge Syed Sharafuddin Shah along with presidents of high court and district bar associations and senior lawyers inaugurated the second day of the festival here the other day where several publication houses, including National Book Foundation and Sindhica Academy, were selling books at half the original price.

Judges, senior lawyers, members of bars and law students of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Law College, students of government girls degree college and people from other strata of society visited the stalls and appreciated organisers of the festival for making it a regular feature.

Safdar Ghouri, president of DBA, said that the book fair not only provided opportunity to booklovers to find out books of their choice but also became a source of inspiration for the youth, who could have a taste of history, literature, law and other genres of writings by leading authors even just by leafing through books.

He said that the book fair also helped lawyers obtain many of the books which they normally did not find on the shelves at bookstores in the city. Therefore, they invited law publishing houses to bring in their fresh stocks on a variety of subjects for the lawyers and law students, he said and vowed to continue the practice with regular intervals.

Young lawyers said that investing in such healthy activity was not only productive but also a source of expanding spectrum of their learning. It would also help increase readers’ appetite for learning, they said.
