A neglected village

THE Sonaro village in Wadh tehsil is one of the most neglected areas in Khuzdar district of Balochistan. The village is deprived of every basic facility that is associated with a human settlement. Sonaro, on the other hand, may well be declared a ‘live museum’ where visitors may come to see how people used to live during the Stone Age. Or maybe the village will not qualify for such desig-nation because somebody might soon point out that life in the Stone Age was too modern to be depicted by the primitive conditions prevailing in the village.

There is no regular water supply. There are no educational institutions. There are no hospitals. And, indeed, there are hardly any employment opportunity. As soon as a child turns six, he is made to look after the cattle. When someone is critically ill, the nearest emergency care centre is 145km away from the village. Many people do not have the money or the means to go that far for medical treatment. They just die.

The provincial government should wake up and provide at least the basic facilities to the people of Sonaro. The lack of education is a serious threat to the future of the young. That surely cannot be allowed to happen.
