Janda triumphs

BERLIN, Jan 1: World Cup leader Jakub Janda of the Czech Republic staved off a comeback from Finland’s Janne Ahonen to win the second stage of the Four Hills tournament at Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Sunday. Gaining revenge after Ahonen beat him in the opening stage at Oberstdorf on Thursday, Janda got his fifth World Cup win of the season thanks to a superb first jump with a higher mark from judges before a crowd of 20,000 in the southern German resort.—Reuters
