Medical college approved for Swat’s tehsil

PESHAWAR: The government has approved to establish a medical college in Matta tehsil of Swat district.

This was disclosed at a meeting held at the Institute of Health Sciences, Mardan, chaired by Khyber Medical University (KMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq on Wednesday.

The participants were informed that a go-ahead from the Higher Education Commission on establishment of an international campus of KMU in Afghan capital Kabul was awaited.

On the occasion, Prof Haq said campuses KMU had been established in eight districts of the province and in Islamabad during the last two and a half years.

He said approval of Matta Medical College was part of the government’s mission to promote medical education throughout the province. Similarly, he said the KMU’s Islamabad campus would soon get its own building.

He said the varsity’s campuses in Lower Dir, Swabi, Lakki Marwat and Kurram were profitable, which was good for the financial stability of the university.

Prof Haq said feasibility had been sent to HEC for approval of the Kabul campus of KMU.
