Fog disrupts traffic on M-1
RAWALPINDI: As winter sets in, the morning and evening fog has affected traffic in the north zone of the national highways and motorway.
Due to the fog, M-1 was closed for eight hours from Swat Expressway Colonel Sher Khan to Ismaili.
The motorway from Peshawar Toll Plaza to Rashakai was also closed for all types of traffic due to fog for a specific time.
The motorway police have issued a travel advisory for road users to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy weather, use fog lights while traveling and to keep a reasonable distance from other vehicles.
According to the officials of the National Highways and Motorway Police (north zone), at around 2:30pm on Monday and Tuesday night, there was fog on M-1 from Peshawar Toll Plaza to Rashakai due to which the highway was closed.
Similarly, M-1 from Swat Expressway Colonel Sher Khan to Ismailia was closed for abouteight hours.
At around 10:30pm on Tuesday when the fog subsided, both sections of the motorway were opened for traffic.
The officials also said before starting journey, police helpline of 130 can be contacted for information about the fog condition on the motorways and highways.
