LYNCHING INCIDENTS

LYNCHING INCIDENTS: The nation was shaken by the news of two employees of a telecommunication company who were lynched by a mob in Karachi’s Machhar Colony area as they were suspected of being child-kidnappers. Such dispensation of mob (in)justice has become a sad reality of life in Karachi owing to the worsening law and order situation in the city which has left the citizens frustrated and agitated. It is time law-enforcement agencies played their due role properly.

NEGLECTED REGION: The development work in Punjab is solely concentrated in some areas of Lahore, the provincial capital. The outskirts of the city are not much different from a random village in southern Punjab in terms of backwardness and lack of civic facilities. The culturally rich region which was home to ancient civilisations awaits a civilised attitude from the authorities who have not only neglected it, but also do not have any plans to mitigate the impact of smog during winters.

UNHYGIENIC FOOD: The serving of adulterous food items is a common trend nowadays in eateries and food streets across Karachi, which is the main cause of stomach ailments among the young. Unfortunately, the restaurants get away with their criminal act of using low-quality ingredients, causing severe diseases that turn chronic later. All this happens under the nose of departments whose job is precisely to keep these restaurants in check and to ensure that relevant guidelines are being followed there.

RASH DRIVING: Rash driving is a major traffic violation as the driver displays a complete disregard for road safety rules and puts others at risk. Reckless drivers often break the speed limit and lose control over the vehicle. Incidents of illegal overtaking of other vehicles is very common. Reckless drivers should be held accountable for the harm they cause to others. Their driving licence must be cancelled, or at least suspended.
