PM, president eulogise Gen Bajwa’s services

ISLAMABAD: A day before he is set to hand over the army’s command to his successor, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa paid farewell calls to the president and the prime minister on Monday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded General Bajwa’s services to the nation, particularly in areas of defence, security and geo-economics in the meeting held at the PM House, APP reported.

“You have the honour of leading the best army in the world,” APP quoted the PM as saying during his meeting with the COAS. General Bajwa thanked the prime minister for his government’s cooperation in carrying out his responsibilities, the statement added.

President Arif Alvi also hailed General Bajwa’s services to the nation in the meeting held at the Presidency. A statement released by the Presidency said that Mr Alvi conveyed his good wishes to the COAS for his future endeavours.

PM chairs meeting on law and order

On Monday, Mr Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on the overall law and order situation a the country, a statement by the PM’s Office stated.

During the meeting, the prime minister praised the security agencies for foolproof arrangements during the month-long PTI long march, which culminated with a rally in Rawalpindi on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Rana Saullah, the interior secretary, heads of law enforcement agencies and officials of the Islamabad district administration.
