PESHAWAR: The students of various universities presented the culture of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through their artworks at a painting competition.
The inter-university painting competition with the theme of ‘Cultural journey of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’ was organised at Nishtar Hall by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA), according to a statement issued here on Wednesday.
The students presented the culture of the province through calligraphy and painting at the competition. It was also meant to provide a platform to young artists to display their works and gain encouragement and recognition.
More than 95 art pieces of three different categories including painting, calligraphy and craft and sculptures by the students of five universities were displayed at the exhibition.
The students of City University, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University, Sarhad University, Cecos University and University of Peshawar took part in the competition.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Tourism, Culture and Archaeology Secretary Mohammad Tahir Orakzai. He was accompanied by KPCTA Director General Bakhtiar Khan, Member of the Board of Directors of Tourism Authority Shamila Tabassum, Manager Events Haseena Shaukat and other officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Orakzai said that organising such events helped in promoting the culture of the province besides providing an opportunity to students to exhibit their skills. He said more such activities should be organised on a larger scale in future.
Bakhtiar Khan said on the occasion that it was the first phase of exhibition. “We will extend the activity to other districts of the province,” he added.
Fahad Ahmed of University of Peshawar got first position and Kamran Sahib of UoP and Sambhal Gul of Benazir Women University got second position in painting competition.
In the calligraphy category, Misbah Rehman of UoP got first position and Hafsa Gul of UoP got second position. In the craft and sculpture category, Mohammad Asim of UoP got first position and Mudassir Tufail of Cecos University stood second.
The first position holders were awarded cash prizes of Rs20,000 each and runners-up got Rs10,000.
