Provincial Security Secretariat to be made fully operational

PESHAWAR: A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Tuesday reviewed functions of the Provincial Security Secretariat (PSS).

Adviser to chief minister on home and tribal affairs Babar Saleem Swati, Commander 11th Corps Lt-Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat, Chief Secretary Shehzad Bangash, additional chief secretary Shahab Ali Shah and other relevant officers were also in attendance.

The chief secretary informed the meeting that the existing staff of home department had been repurposed for performing duties at the PSS and said regular meetings were being held with federal agencies/departments for quick information sharing and fast-track operations of the secretariat.

The chief minister appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders, saying the provincial government would extend full cooperation, including provision of the required staff and funds, to ensure complete operationalisation of PSS on priority basis.

It was decided that a meeting of the Apex Committee would be held after every six months for taking policy level decisions, besides holding quarterly meetings of the provincial steering committee.

It was decided that the Fusion Cell at 11 Corps Headquarters would be integrated with PSS for quick information sharing.

Mahmood Khan directed the stakeholders to prepare strategy for dealing with illegal SIMs, NCP vehicles, cybercrime, explosives and extortion cases.
