Swabi girls college fails to start fifth semester classes

SWABI: The Government Girls Degree College, Yar Hussain, here has failed to start the fifth semester classes despite approval of full-fledged BS programme by the government, sources said.

Parents of the students and jirga members have requested the college management several times that the precious time of the girls should not be wasted and admission be given to them to complete their BS degrees in their subjects.

They told this correspondent that the practice so far was that the students of Political Science and Zoology subjects after completing four semesters in the college would join the same departments in the Women University Swabi for the remaining four semesters.

However, the university has now conveyed to the college management that it (college) should now run its full-fledged programmes.

In this regard, a letter has also been issued to the college principal by deputy director academics, Directorate of Higher Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which says: “I am directed... to state that upon the approval received from the minister, the Higher Education Department vide DO No. SACM /Ind & Com/ 03-10-2022, the Director, Higher Education has been pleased to accord approval for starting of new BS programmes in Zoology and Political Science with immediate effect.”

The letter also advised the college to ‘initiate affiliation with the concerned affiliating university and manage the said programme (s) with the available resources.’

It was also mentioned in the letter that Associate Degree (if any) in the said programmes might be converted to BS immediately after getting the affiliation.

Samajee Behbood Rabita Council president Mohammad Aqil advocate, who belongs to Yar Hussain, said the parents of the girls were told by the college management that they would start the fifth semester from next year, which would result in wastage of precious one year of the students.

This scribe tried to contact the college management on phone, but there was no response.
