Well proves deathtrap for labourer

BAHAWALPUR: A labourer was asphyxiated and two others were injured while being trapped in a well at 27/BC village on Yazman Road on Saturday.

Rescue 1122 personnel said labourers were working in a 40-foot deep well and got trapped. The rescuers brought them out but one of them could not survive. The injured were admitted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH).

ACCIDENTS: A man died and 27 other people were injured in four road accidents on Saturday.

Rescue 1122 Lodhran media coordinator Muhammad Safdar said Adeel, 35, died while Haq Nawaz, 48, and Muhammad Luqman, 23, suffered injuries in a collision between two trailers at Qutabpur on Dunyapur-Khanewal Road. The injured were shifted to the Dunyapur THQ hospital.

In another road accident, two persons were injured when the car they were travelling by overturned after a tyre burst near Balochwala Phatak in Lodhran. The injured were shifted to the DHQ hospital.

District Emergency Officer (DEO) Baqir Hussain said Abdul Rehman, Muhammad Khan, Asghar and Abdul Rasheed suffered injuries when two cars collided on Ahmedpur East Road at Bhatta No 2.

Rescuers said one of the cars was on its way to Ahmedpur East from Bahawalpur and its driver lost control over it due to speeding and dashed against a roadside divider. After crossing over the greenbelt, the car collided with the other vehicle and the four occupants were injured. They were shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) in a critical condition.

Nineteen passengers were injured when a coach and a tractor-trailer collided near Lal Sohanra bus stop, about 35 kilometres away from here, on Bahawalnagar Road.

Rescuers rendered first aid to 11 passengers while others moved on foot to the Lal Sohanra rural health centre. Later, the rescuers shifted four of the passengers to the BVH.

AERIAL FIRING: A man was injured in an aerial firing incident at a wedding party in Ahmedpur East tehsil.
