Solar energy project reviewed

LAHORE: South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary retired Capt Saqib Zafar on Thursday reviewed progress on installation of Rs240m solar energy system project at the Secretariat.

He was chairing a meeting to review the progress on the building of Civil Secretariat South Punjab in Multan.

The secretaries of various departments, including services, planning and development (P&D) and Board of Revenue, were present besides the officials of the Multan Electric Supply Company (Mepco) and Infrastructure Development Authority of Punjab.

Mr Zafar said Rs1bn had been spent on construction of south Punjab Secretariat so far and it would be shifted to the solar energy.

He said Rs240m would be spent to install solar energy system at the secretariat.

He also issued directions for completion of the project within the stipulated period.

Mr Zafar said a demand notice should be issued within 15 days for the feeder connection of the secretariat and directed the IDAP officials to cover the irrigation watercourse in the secretariat with concrete lining.

Giving briefing to the meeting, the IDAP officials said Rs950m funds were available for the project and the speed of work had been accelerated.

They said an amount of Rs1.5bn was demanded from the Punjab government to complete the project on time.
