Swabi DRC resolves 132 disputes

SWABI: The Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) and the district police have resolved 132 disputes of different nature among families and groups during the month of October.

Sharing information with Dawn on Saturday, the DRC members and police officials said they ensured that disputes were settled at initial stage to prevent them from turning to bloody rivalries.

Afsar Khan, the DRC chairman, said the body received a total of 156 applications in October. He said majority of applications pertained to disputes over women and property. He said people had started giving due weight to the decisions of DRC like the traditional jirga system.

DSP headquarters Farooq Zaman said the police ensured implementation of the decisions of DRC. He said the police acted as a link between the DRC members and the warring parties.
