Safe disposal of waste planned
KURRAM: The district administration in Parachinar, the headquarters of Kurram district, plans to purchase 12 acres of land outside the town for safe disposal of garbage.
Parachinar is a densely populated town grappling with a huge problem of garbage disposal, officials told Dawn. The decision to create garbage dump points at the proposed site comes in view of this and no land for garbage disposal inside the city.
Piles of dirt, choked drains due to polythene bags and drain leakages are seen everywhere in this city spread over 5,250 acres.
Talking to this correspondent, Shair Hussain, a local dealer at Ghulam Jan Market, said the shopkeepers either threw waste in drains or set it on fire due to lack of proper arrangements for garbage disposal such as collection points or dustbins.
As such, he said, markets of Parachinar contributed to environmental pollution and hazards, a situation that required immediate attention of the district administration and environmental protection agencies.
