TAXILA: Deputy Commissioner Attock Hassan Waqar Cheema directed the price control magistrates to gear up vigilance and surveillance in curbing artificial inflation created by hoarders and profiteers.

He stated this while chairing a price review committee meeting at the DC office on Saturday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Zulfiqar Ahmed, all the assistant commissioners of six tehsils besides the District Officer Industries Prices, Weights and Measures Rabiya Naseem and officials of THE revenue department were present.

The deputy commissioner reviewed the individual performance of the price control magistrates and asked them to improve their inspections and performance otherwise action would be taken against them.

He also directed them to regularly monitor prices of commodities, vegetables and fruits in vegetable markets besides taking action against hoarders.

Prices of food items should be displayed at conspicuous places so that consumers do not face any difficulty, he added.

Mr Cheema directed the officers concerned to ensure better monitoring of fruits and vegetables bidding in the early morning in the fruit and vegetable markets.

He appealed to the citizens to report to the price control magistrates about overcharging and other issues.

Meanwhile, the district administration has started a crackdown on profiteers and violators of the official price list.

The DC along with Assistant Commissioner (city) Saman Abbas paid surprise visits to various bazaars and markets of the city and checked the display of the official price list and got feedback from the shoppers about availability of basic commodities.
