SMOG: Pollution and smog pose a serious health threat and efforts should be made to avoid these.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Ali Kathia chaired a smog awareness seminar in Deepalpur, where agriculturists, lumberdars and officials of the environment and other departments participated.

Speakers said the government and the private sector should jointly work to prevent smog. As Deepalpur was the hub of agriculture, they said, landlords and agriculturists must cooperate with the administration to save people from smog and polluted air. They asked the farmers to avoid torching residue of crops, especially paddy.

Deputy Director Agriculture (extension wing) Rao Riaz Anjum said the growers must use agricultural tools to treat the crops’ residue which could enhance the land fertility. He said kilns and industrial units must observe SOPs laid down to avoid smog.
