LWMC MD transferred to CDA

LAHORE: The federal government on Thursday transferred the Lahore Waste Management Company Managing Director (MD) Rafia Haider to the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Dawn has learnt that her appointment in the CDA would be decided later by the authorities in Islamabad (chief commissioner).

Ms Haider -- a grade 18 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service -- who previously served as the Punjab Food Authority additional director general, was appointed the LWMC MD last year. She is among those few who remained in this office for a bit longer period than her many predecessors.

She told Dawn that whatever she did was for a clean environment for the residents of Lahore.

“My posting at the LWMC was really a great period, and I will remember it,” she said.

“I tried to introduce various things in a bid to boost the company,” she maintained.

Also, the LWMC on Thursday released its special cleanliness plan for Eid-i-Milad to ensure waste-free surroundings in the city, especially the major roads, mosques and routes of Milad processions.

“We have deployed more than 500 workers and extra machinery to provide extraordinary cleaning services to the citizens, followed by the sweeping and washing of main roads and 150 mosques,” says a spokesperson.

“On the major procession routes, emptying of waste containers on time will also be ensured.”

He said the cleanliness plan also includes the sprinkling of water and liming of pavements in order to give a neat and clean look to the city.
