From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1972: Fifty Years Ago: Troop pull-out

UNITED NATIONS: The Indian Foreign Minister, Sardar Swaran Singh told the United Nations General Assembly yesterday [Oct 4] that withdrawals by Indian and Pakistani troops to their side of the border would take place after the delineation of the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir. Participating in the general debate, he said an agreement on delineation had been arrived at “practically everywhere except for a few pockets where the total area involved is only a few square miles.”

“We hope that very shortly the entire line will be delineated,” the Indian Foreign Minister said in a moderate reference to Pakistan in his review of the international situation. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by the newspaper’s staff correspondent from Lahore,] The Central Law Minister Mr Mahmud Ali Kasuri, has again tendered his resignation from the Cabinet office — second time in one week. On Sept 28, a Presi­d­ency Press Note, coming amidst rumours that Mr Kasuri had resigned, had said that the President had not accepted the resignation. The following day, the Law Minister had issued a statement refuting rumours that the future Constitution of the country was not going to be based on the federal parliamentary system. This time … he has resigned only from the Cabinet post... .
