LAHORE: President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto said here today [Oct 2] Pakistan had signed the Simla Agreement to honour its sincerity and if the fate of the accord was in balance, “it was not because of us”. Asked about the fate of the Agreement, he said Pakistan had already reported the recent developments through the Foreign Office spokesman. However, Pakistan alone could not determine the fate of the accord — it was for the other side also to decide as to what was going to be its future. — Staff correspondent

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Peshawar,] A meeting of the Speakers of the Assemblies will be held on Oct 6 at Islamabad which will consider important matters regarding the working of the Assemblies, Mr Aslam Khattak, Speaker NWFP [said] here today [Oct 2]. He said in this meeting rules regarding the contempt of the House will be discussed. … Mr Khattak said that these Rules of Procedure were adopted during a dictatorial regime, therefore they need overhauling and amendments according to democratic traditions. Mr Khattak said the status of the Speaker of the National Assembly had not so far been fixed, therefore the Speakers’ meeting will discuss the question and necessary decision in this regard will be taken.
