Tipu Sultan Chowk

ON the busy Grand Trunk Road towards Peshawar, Tipu Sultan Shaheed Chowk is one of the most important road network junctions for northern Pakistan. The chowk is designed in a T-shape, connecting Rawalpindi with Peshawar and Abbottabad. The chowk can also be called the southern face of the Karakoram Highway N-35.

It is a beautiful intersection, but the chowk has no proper bus bay with a shed or even a light for the commuters. They wait for the bus and congested vans on the road risking their lives. Furthermore, things become complex during scorching summer days or when it rains. Besides, being there after sunset is always a big problem.

A written complaint was filed with assistant commissioner, Hasanabdal, in December 2020, followed by multiple complaints on various forums, but all of them have fallen on deaf ears. We need to opt for concrete rather than cosmetic measures when it comes to public infrastructure.
