HRCP concerned over safety of ex-MQM lawmaker Panhwar

KARACHI: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed its concern over non-production of former Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmaker Nisar Panhwar before any court of law.

In a statement posted on its Twitter account, the human rights body was concerned for the safety of the former legislator.

“The HRCP is alarmed to learn that former MQM MPA Nisar Panhwar has still not been produced in front of a court despite a petition filed in the Sindh High Court. We remain concerned for his safety, given the dubious record of security agencies, and demand that he be produced without further delay,” it said.

Mohsin Nisar, the son of the former MQM MPA, had filed a petition in the SHC stating that his father had on August 27 filed a constitutional petition in the SHC against a ban on media coverage of MQM founder Altaf Hussain and the petition was fixed for hearing on Aug 30. However, he submitted that Rangers personnel along with officials of “sensitive institutions” raided his house in Saadi Town on the night between Aug 29 and Aug 30 and took away his father and since then his whereabouts were not known.
