Women university teacher wins British Council project

PESHAWAR: An assistant professor of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar has won a project sponsored by the British Council Pakistan in collaboration with the UK Partner ‘Shakespeare Institute UK’.

A statement said that Henna Karamat, an assistant professor at department of English language and literature of SBBWU and the director planning of KP Education Foundation, won the project “Pakistan/UK New Perspectives, 2022”.

Under the said project, she launched first “KP’s Shakespeare Society” including 30 female students initially. The launching platform included the oath taking ceremony by the director of Shakespeare Institute UK, Prof Michael Dobson, from University of Birmingham virtually after which a long panel discussion was held in which various aspects related to Shakespeare’s life and work were discussed.

On the occasion, Prof Henna enlightened the audience about the project details and project activities and also explained to them the learning opportunities for the students of English literature.

Ms Wardah, a representative of British Council Pakistan, appreciated the unique effort from KP in the field of art and literature. She said that the project had the capacity in various dynamics to contribute to learning and capacity building of the students.

SBBWU Vice-chancellor Prof Safia Ahmed also appreciated the efforts of the project lead for her active role in the region and launching a unique project that created safe places for the promotion of arts, cultural and literary activities.

“We believe in encouraging students to excel in different fields. They must acquire border exchange learning and research exposure for their learning,” she said. She also said that being alumni of a renowned UK university, she felt the urge to provide more opportunities to the students so as to bridge the gap between with other institutions around the globe. “We have to opt for the concept of ‘knowledge sharing’ to take lead,” she added.
