Charsadda women protest gas, power outages

CHARSADDA: Women from Charsadda city on Tuesday came onto roads in protest against excessive gas and electricity loadshedding.

The protesting women set used tyres on fire and blocked the Peshawar-Charsadda Road. Protests were also held in other areas, including Mirzagan, Bhoosakhel and Azizkhel, against prolonged power loadshedding and low gas pressure.

The baton-wielding women were chanting slogans against SNGPL and Pesco authorities. They were of the view that after prolonged and unscheduled power outages they were now facing gas loadshedding. They said on prices of essential items were on rise, while on the other, gas and electricity outages had paralysed their life.

They said price of LPG was out of their reach, and also criticised the elected representatives for keeping ‘mum’ over the excessive gas and electricity loadshedding.

Later, the women ended the protest on the request of traffic officials.

However, they threatened to hold another protest on Wednesday (today) if gas and electricity outages were done away with.
