Man remanded to police for ‘killing’ sister

PESHAWAR: A court in Nowshera has remanded a man, arrested for allegedly murdering his sister for honour, to the police for two days.

The suspect, namely Ikhtiar, had claimed his sister had died of natural death and she was laid to rest at a graveyard in Pabbi on Sept 9.

However, an official of Pabbi police station told Dawn that DSP Ismail Shah received information through sources that the deceased woman was in fact killed by her family members and had not died of natural death.

Later, body of the deceased was exhumed and her postmortem proved she was strangulated.

The official said the woman was married and had two daughters. He said the deceased had allegedly left her home a few weeks ago with another person, and returned to her parents’ home after a month.

The Pabbi police official said the complainant in the case was Lal Rehman, the husband of the deceased, who suspected his wife was killed by Ikhtiar.

The suspect tried to evade arrest for few days, but was arrested by a raiding team, which was looking for him in different areas.
