Fog affects rail, air traffic

LAHORE, Dec 21: Fog badly affected rail and air traffic on Wednesday, delaying the arrival of at least five major trains by two to four hours.

Intense mist at Allama Iqbal Airport also either delayed or forced diversion of over a dozen domestic and international flights.

The Awam Express (13-up) could reach Lahore at 12noon instead of its scheduled time of 8:10am, the Karakorum Express (41-up) arrived at 10:50am instead of 7:20am, the Tezgam (7-up) at 3pm instead of 1:20pm, the Karachi Express (15-up) at 12:05pm instead of 10:30am while the Khyber Mail (1-up) could not reach Lahore till the filing of this report at 10:30pm instead of its scheduled time of 9pm.

Freight and container trains also reached their destinations late.

The Glasgow-bound flight PK-777 was scheduled to take off at 9:30am but it departed at 12:45pm. The Chicago-bound PK-713 flight took off at 6:10am with a minor delay of 10 minutes.

The Islamabad-bound PK-356 took off at 10:45am instead of 8am while another Islamabad-bound flight PK-386 took off at 2:35pm instead of 2pm. The Karachi-bound PK-303 flew at 12 noon instead of 11am while another flight for Karachi (PK-307) flew at 11am instead of 10am.

The Karachi-Lahore flight PK-306 was diverted to Islamabad because of poor visibility. It was to land at the Lahore airport at 6:45pm. Scheduled to land at 7pm, the Karachi-Lahore flight PK-312 was diverted back to Karachi due to intense mist at Lahore.
