KMU, NGO join hands to serve flood-hit people

PESHAWAR: Khyber Medical University (KMU) and Alkhidmat Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together for the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims, street children, orphans and children suffering from thalassaemia.

The MoU was signed by the varsity vice-chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq and Alkhidmat Foundation (AF) president Khalid Waqas Chamkani on Thursday, said a press release.

It was agreed that the two institutions would establish close contacts to benefit from each other’s experiences and cooperate to implement the programmes in the flood-stricken areas.

According to the MoU, the KMU, being the only public sector medical university in the province, has wide opportunities to serve the society in the field of knowledge and research as well as in the social sector.

In the same way, AF is providing relief to the people affected by the recent floods, and apart from its ambulance service a wide network of education, training and sponsorship of orphans is also working under its patronage.

The KMU VC said that the varsity had an efficient infrastructure and organised system in the form of knowledge generation and research. He said that together the two organisations could serve the society in a better way.

Prof Haq said that their doors were open for collaboration with all the organisations serving humanity at some level in the society. He praised the performance and services of the AF in the recent floods. He said that international institutions and personalities had appreciated the activities of AF and in this context they decided to cooperate with it.
