Uplift of remote areas pledged

RAWALPINDI, Dec 15: President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday expressed resolve to carry forward process of socio-economic development in remote areas, irrespective of disruptive attempts by anti-development elements.

The two leaders in a meeting here said that the government would not allow subversive activities by a tiny minority to come in the way of wellbeing of the masses, who wanted to utilize their potential and resources for their long-deserved progress and prosperity.

President Musharraf and Premier Aziz said the development projects were aimed at socio-economic improvement in the lives of people in far-flung areas as their progress meant progress of the country.

They reviewed the pace of work on various development projects and said that the government would remain undeterred and pursue the development projects to their logical conclusion.

The development projects, they said, would herald progress by transmitting benefits of mainstream economic development at the grass-roots level.

“The country has entered a vital stage of economic advancement, so nobody will be allowed to impede the process of development,” they said.

Discussing law and order, they noted the need to keep a strict check on saboteurs and bring them to book according to the law of the land.

The meeting was attended by Pakistan Muslim League chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Privatization Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, MNA Farooq Leghari, Sindh Minister Nadir Akmal Leghari and Senator Mushahid Hussain.—APP
