Over 28,000 polio refusal cases covered in Bannu

LAKKI MARWAT: A special two-day anti-polio campaign covered over 28,000 refusal cases in Bannu district late last month, district health officer Dr Mohammad Rehman Afridi said on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters, he said Bannu was in limelight after emergence of polio cases in the neighbouring North Waziristan district.

“At the end of a five-day drive, the department with support of district administration and other stakeholders carried out a special two-day activity to cover refusal cases,” he said, adding

28,980 children, whose parents had refused their vaccination, were administered with anti-polio vaccine.

He said parents of over 1,500 children were still reluctant to get their children vaccinated.

Dr Rehman said the department had formed special teams to engage ulema, teachers, elders and local body members to convince the reluctant parents to get their children vaccinated against the crippling disease.

SHOT DEAD: A man from Tank district was shot dead over women-related dispute in Darra Pezu town of Lakki Marwat on Tuesday.

Police officials said four men attacked Amanullah, 20, in the bazaar. They said the attackers – Naser, Bazgul, Ameen and Ghazi Khan – also belonged to Tank.
