Paintings celebrating beauty of nature on display

RAWALPINDI: More than 80 works depicting forests and nature have been displayed at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC). The works have been created by two artists from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Former RAC resident director Naheed Manzoor and Director Waqar Ahmed were the chief guests. Besides the paintings, calligraphic work in Kufic script was also displayed.

Ms Manzoor said: “Everything between the heavens and the earth has been created by Allah Almighty. Both the artists painted beautiful scenes of nature.

“The work was simple but impressive and they had a good sense to use the right colour at the right place. Colours do not need language. Colours speak their own language.”

Artists play a significant role in creating awareness in people about issues being faced by society at large, she said, adding that, “we must attract the younger generation to traditional education as well as art”.

Mr Ahmed said it was a skill to combine different subjects in one exhibition.

“The arts council has always provided a platform to the youth so that they can present their work to the world,” he said, adding many artists were able to present their work in other countries as a result of efforts made by the council.

The government is aware of the financial difficulties being faced by artists and is assisting them through funds and one time special grants, he said.

The joint exhibition will continue till July 8.
