RCB decides to increase water charges

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Friday issued directions to increase rates of water supplied through tankers. It also formed a committee to revise the tap water charges in cantonment areas.

As per the decision, the rate for water supply through a small water tanker rate increased from Rs500 to Rs830 while supply from a large tanker increased from Rs1,200 to Rs2,000.

The meeting was held with Station Commander Brig Salman Nazar in the chair. RCB Cantonment Executive Officer Imran Gulzar, Vice President Malik Munir and other elected and official members of the board were present in the meeting.

According to a press release issued late at night, “the board gave approval to increase the water rates supplied from Khanpur Dam to residents”.

RCB Vice President Malik Munir said water charges were not approved yet and the board formed a committee to look into the matter as elected members did not want to put further financial pressure on residents.

The committee would keep a check on water issues including water supply and rates in the coming days, he said, adding that the committee would present its report in the next board meeting.

The board took up the matter pertaining to Cantonment General Hospital and issued approval to appoint a medical officer, ENT specialist and staff nurses. Other than this, members approved purchase of new machinery and a computer system for the hospital apart from the purchase of spare parts of machinery for the Khanpur Dam Filtration Plant at Sangjani.

The RCB will hire vehicles for collection of animal waste during Eidul Azha from cantonment areas and dump it outside the cantonment. It also allowed its employees to get houses on rent.
