PTI moves court for permission to hold rally on July 2

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday moved Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking directions for deputy commissioner (DC) Islamabad to grant them permission to hold rally at Parade Ground on the evening of July 2.

Former prime minister Imran Khan announced that his party would hold a public gathering in Islamabad against the coalition government. The petition was filed by Islamabad PTI president Ali Nawaz Awan.

The petitioner has cited Minister of Interior, Inspector General of police (IG) and DC, Islamabad as respondents.

The petitioner has contended in the petition that he had approached the DC, Islamabad with the application to seek permission and necessary security arrangement for the gathering but he (DC) was using delaying tactics.

He accused Islamabad DC of violating his constitutional rights of assembly at the behest of interior minister.

“Federal government is trying to curb and suppress the voice of people through all arbitrary and tyrannical ways,” the petition said. “The respondents are bound to allowing holding of political gathering provided and protected by the constitution,” argued the petition.
