Two suspects killed in ‘encounter’

ISLAMABAD: Two suspects were murdered during an alleged encounter with police at an undisclosed location, Dawn has learnt.Police are yet to identify the suspects.

A police public liaison officer issued a statement saying that the process of identifying the deceased is underway. He said during a raid in the jurisdiction of Tarnol police station, there was an encounter between the police and members of a gang. The suspects started firing at the police after seeing them, he added.

He said the suspects were killed by bullets fired by their accomplices. The police team remained safe due to safety measures, a statement issued by the police said, adding that teams were sent to other areas to arrest more suspects.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Sohail Zafar Chattha and other officers including a spokesman were not available for comment over the issue despite several attempts. The official who shared the liaison officer’s statement said we have limited details.
