Zaheer Abbas recovering, remains in ICU

LAHORE: The health of Pakistan batting great Zaheer Abbas, who was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in London a few days ago, is now improving, his wife Sameena Abbas said on Wednesday.

The 74-year-old Zaheer, who was partially treated through physiotherapy for back pain in Pakistan, went to England for further treatment via Dubai on June 1 where he stayed for a week before leaving for the UK.

“Thank you for your prayers and wishes, Zaheer is improving. Still in the ICU though,” Sameena told Dawn.com.

Right-handed Zaheer played 78 Tests and 62 ODIs for Pakistan from 1969 to 1985.

According to media reports, Zaheer tested positive for Covid-19 in Dubai and in the same condition he travelled to London.

Known as Asian Bradman for his phenomenal batting in international and English county cricket, Zaheer, who was the president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) during 2015-16, was admitted to the London hospital in critical condition with serious kidney-related problems.
