ITP to suspend licences of habitual traffic rule violators

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have decided to suspend the driving licences of habitual violators of traffic rules.

As many as 17 people were found to be involved in repeated traffic violations.

Out of these 17 violators, six have been directed to attend traffic rules and road safety classes for five days while a process has been initiated to suspend driving licences of 11 others.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Syed Mustafa Tanveer said that ITP has introduced a system for accountability of those involved in violation of traffic rules.

He said that the digital challan records would be reviewed on a continuous basis and licences of those involved in repeated violation of traffic laws would be cancelled.

He has also directed zonal deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) to ensure traffic discipline in the city and take strict action against violators.

SSP Tanveer said police must make sure that the environment on roads was safe, adding people will be educated about traffic rules.

He said that offenders violating traffic rules will face strict action, adding they will be monitored on a regular basis and no tolerance would be accepted on violation of traffic rules.

The SSP urged people to follow traffic laws otherwise driving licences would be cancelled.

He said the decision has been made to implement traffic laws in the real sense across the city so that lives of people could be saved.
