BIEK exams for over 190,000 students begin today

KARACHI: Around 190,000 students of intermediate will be appearing for their annual examinations scheduled to commence from Saturday (today) and conclude on July 6.

Organised by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), the exams will be conducted in morning and afternoon shifts for pre-medical, pre-engineering, general science, home economics, commerce (regular and private) groups.

Around 108,000 students of the science group will sit in the morning shift from 9am to 12 noon. The afternoon shift running from 2pm to 5pm will see about 82,000 candidates of the commerce (regular and private) groups.

The board has set up 211 exam centres, including 115 reserved for the morning shift and 96 for the afternoon shift. Some 64 centres have been declared sensitive, comprising 32 of the morning shift and as many of the afternoon shift.

BIEK chairman Prof Dr Saeeduddin has informed that in order to control copy culture all examination centres would have vigilance officers, centre control officers, centre superintendents, examination staff and teachers.

The students have been disallowed to bring their cell phones, tablets, laptops or any other electronic devices. If any student was found cheating, his or her paper would be confiscated and he or she would be barred from appearing in exams for three years, he said.
