Rs8.08bn fertiliser subsidy disbursed

LAHORE: Punjab has disbursed over Rs8.089 billion as fertiliser subsidy under the Kisan card scheme launched in April last year.

According to the data available with the Agriculture Department, more than 0.843 million farmers have applied for the Kisan card and 0.553 million have been issued the cards by May end.

There are a total of 5.2499 million farmers in Punjab as per Agriculture Census 2010.

The Kisan card holders have been issued more than Rs8.089 billion subsidy for the purchase of DAP (di-ammonium phosphate) fertiliser, while a sum of over Rs4.287 billion has been transacted, shows the data.

According to break-up of the farmers’ registration, the Multan division has taken the lead with 138,318 followed by 120,962 in Faisalabad and 102,892 in Bahawalpur divisions. Around 95,806 farmers have been registered in DG Khan, 95,928 in Sargodha, 91,542 in Gujranwala, 86,221 in Sahiwal, 46,928 in Lahore and 19,994 in Rawalpindi divisions.
