Palm oil recovers

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9: Malaysian crude palm oil futures recovered in late trade on Friday to end firmer on expectations of strong export figures next week, dealers said. The third-month February contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended up one ringgit at 1,411 ringgit ($373.6) per ton, near the day’s high. It had fallen as low as 1,404 in the morning on weakness in rival soyaoil.

Overall volume was low at 2,372 lots. On Monday, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board is also due to give production figures for November, dealers said.

In Malaysia’s physical crude palm oil market, the December contract was offered at 1,400 ringgit a ton against bids of 1,395 ringgit in southern and central regions.

Deals were reported at 1,385 to 1,395 ringgit a ton for the south and at 1,390 to 1,395 ringgit for central.

January (south/central) was offered at 1,415 ringgit a ton against bids of 1,405 ringgit. There was a deal at 1,405 in the south and there were no deals in central. —Reuters
