Four killed in armed clash over property dispute

KARACHI: Four men were gunned down and 11 others wounded when a property dispute between two groups took an ugly turn on the outskirts of the metropolis on Saturday evening, police and rescue officials said.

Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur said that two groups — Jokhios and Hyderi Faqirs — clashed with each other over the issue of a plot in Darsano Chanoo.

Initially, a scuffle broke out between them in which sticks and axes were used. Subsequently, the youngsters of both the groups used firearms, resulting in bullet injuries to as many as 15 people. Four of the wounded died, he said.

A heavy contingent of the police rushed to the scene to control the law and order situation from further worsening.

“The police have detained 15 persons belonging to both the groups,” said the Malir SSP.

He added that huge quantity of arms has also been recovered from them. “The police have cordoned off the area and collecting evidence,” said the officer.

The rescue services of Edhi and Chippa, who shifted the dead and wounded to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, identified three of the four deceased persons as Anwar Qadir, 50, Abdul Jabbar, 45 and Ibne Hasan, 24.

Fire erupts in textile mills

A huge fire that broke out in a textile mills in SITE on early Saturday morning was controlled after hectic efforts lasting for several hours, police and firemen said.

A fire official said that the fire broke out in the stitching and finishing department of the mills.
