KARACHI: A district court reserved on Saturday its order on the pre-arrest bail application of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MNA Alamgir Khan in a case pertaining to allegedly defaming security institutions and “abetting mutiny, or attempting to seduce soldiers from their duty”.
The MNA was booked for spraying anti-state slogans inside a cricket ground in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on May 20.
On Saturday, he moved the pre-arrest bail application before District and Sessions Judge (East) Khalid Hussain Shahani.
His counsel argued that there was no eyewitness of the alleged incident, adding that the Pakistan Peoples Party-led provincial government had lodged the case to subject his client to political victimisation.
Therefore, he pleaded the court to grant bail to the applicant, saying he wanted to join the investigation, but apprehended his arrest by the police.
After hearing the arguments, the court reserved its order to be pronounced on Monday (tomorrow).
A case was registered against the PTI MNA under Sections 131 (abetting mutiny, or attempting to seduce a soldier, sailor or airman from his duty), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups, etc) and other sections of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state at the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station.
Nimra Kazmi case
Another court on Saturday directed the investigating officer (IO) to file charge sheet in the Nimra Kazmi abduction and underage marriage case within 10 days.
Earlier, DSP Aftab, who had replaced the former IO on the court’s directives, filed a progress report stating that a police team was already in Punjab to investigate the matter while another team was leaving the city soon.
He informed the judge that the charge sheet could not be filed since the investigation was still incomplete and requested time to enable him to do so.
