Shangla villagers build wooden bridge on Kana River on self-help basis

SHANGLA: Residents of Faiz Darra village in Kana tehsil have made a wooden suspension bridge on self-help basis after waiting for years for the government to build a jeepable bridge on the Kana River to connect their village of over 500 households with rest of the district.

The temporary wooden bridge was completed on Thursday and crossed over by a pickup van, giving a joy to the local people. Earlier, they would cross the river through a pedestrian wooden bridge.

A resident Latifullah told this correspondent that the government had approved a jeepable bridge for the area and work order was also issued to a contractor, but despite passage of two years the project could not be started.

He said they had frequently approached provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai in this regard, but the issue was still unresolved.
