Four cops injured in attack by PO’s accomplices

BAHAWALPUR: Four policemen were injured in an alleged attack on Monday on a police party by over 15 people armed with firearms, bricks and clubs, including women, near Jagear Bhatti Dahari village in Sammasatta police precincts.

According to PRO Iqbal Ahmed of DPO, a police team, led by Baghdadul Jadid Station House Officer Rao Feroze Hussain, on a tip-off raided a house to arrest proclaimed offender Asif. On seeing the police, seven nominated people Muhammad Atif, Asad, Arshad, Sohaib, Abdul Razaq, Shehzad and Mohsin Tanveer accompanied by around 10 unidentified men attacked the police team with bricks, clubs and resorted to firing resulting in injuries to four policemen including driver Muhammad Asif, Abdul Razaq, Hussain and Ramzan.

The attackers also damaged official police vehicles and motorcycles. The police team called reinforcements from the district police lines after which PO Asif was overpowered and arrested.

Sammasatta police on the complaint of SHO Rao Feroze Hussain registered a first information report under sections 506, 337 and 379 of Pakistan Penal Code and other offences against the nominated suspects who later demonstrated against police and alleged that the personnel violated the sanctity of the house.

WATER PLANT: Jamaat-i-Islami Emir Sirajul Haq inaugurated a solar water filtration project at Nagrawala Toba in Cholistan, about 80-kms from here, on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the JI emir criticised the three mainstream political parties - PPP, PML-N and PTI - along with ‘corrupt mafia’ for the ills the country had been facing.

He said the political parties got IMF loans but instead of benefiting the people allegedly misappropriated the funds. He regretted that the Cholistani people faced shortage of drinking water and the JI would raise a voice in the national assembly about the issue.
